How To Avoid Shiny Object Syndrome and Start Making Money in Your Business

How I avoid shiny object syndrome

Today, let's talk about something that has plagued many of us entrepreneurs (yes, that includes me): the notorious shiny object syndrome. You know, that irresistible urge to chase every new product, trend, or shiny course that promises to revolutionize our lives and businesses. It's like a virtual disco ball, constantly tempting us with its flashy allure.

I must admit, I've been a victim of shiny object syndrome myself. Oh boy, I've danced around so many different ideas, creating new products and buying more courses than I care to admit. I mean, who needs a wardrobe filled with fabulous outfits when you can have an inbox overflowing with shiny promises of overnight success, right? But here's the thing: my business was stuck in a perpetual loop of starting and stopping, never gaining the traction it deserved.

It wasn't until I realized that my obsession with shiny objects was turning me into a professional course collector and a serial product creator that I knew something had to change. I couldn't keep jumping from one idea to another without ever fully committing or achieving the results I desired. So, I took a step back, put on my "focus cape," and decided to tackle this shiny object syndrome head-on, because it has become my personal way of procrastinating everything.

Embrace the Focus: Why Staying on Track Matters for Business Success

As business owners, we have a million and one things wanting our attention at any given moment. The siren call of shiny objects can easily lure us away from our intended path, leaving us feeling overwhelmed and directionless. But let me tell you, staying focused and on track is the secret sauce to unlocking the full potential of our businesses.

Why is it so important, you ask? Well, think of it this way: staying focused is like having a superpower. It allows us to channel our energy, time, and resources into activities that truly move the needle forward. When we stay on track, we're more likely to accomplish our goals, reach milestones, and ultimately achieve the success we've been dreaming of.

Imagine a race car driver zipping around the track, eyes fixed on the finish line. They don't get distracted by the sparkling billboards or the tempting pit stops along the way. No, they stay laser-focused on the track ahead, making split-second decisions and maneuvering with precision. That's the kind of focus we need to bring to our businesses.

When we stay on track, we're able to make smarter decisions. We become adept at prioritizing tasks, allocating resources efficiently, and maximizing our productivity. We're not constantly playing catch-up or trying to salvage half-finished projects.

My Advice: Embrace the Quirks and Stay on Track

Alright, it's time to get down to business and talk about my own tried-and-true methods to combat shiny object syndrome and keep ourselves on track. Here are some pearls of wisdom that I've gathered along my own bumpy entrepreneurial journey:

  1. Set Goals to Keep on Track:

I know, I know, goal-setting sounds about as exciting as watching paint dry. But trust me, it's the secret sauce to maintaining your focus and staying on track. Set clear, specific goals that make your heart skip a beat (in a good way, of course). These goals will act as your North Star, guiding your decisions and actions.

Now, don't just write down generic goals like "make lots of money" or "rule the world." Get specific, my friend! Break them down into smaller, actionable steps. For example, "launch a new product line by the end of Q3" or "double my social media following within six months." Specific goals help you track your progress and keep your eye on the prize.

2.Pursue What You Love (and What Motivates You):

Let's face it, running a business isn't always a walk in the park. There will be challenges, setbacks, and moments when you question your sanity. That's why it's crucial to do something you genuinely love and that fires up your inner spark. Find that sweet spot where passion and motivation intersect.

When you're passionate about your work, it becomes easier to resist the allure of shiny distractions. It's like having a superhero shield that repels the latest hyped-up trend or unnecessary course. So, go ahead and infuse your business with your unique personality and interests. Embrace your quirks and let them guide you toward success. For me in my marketing business it was doing more email marketing and creating templates and completely leaving out social media marketing. And only doing the things I love,

3. Use a Marketing and Content Planner (Psst! You Can Download Mine for Free!):

Ah, planning... some people love it, and some people avoid it like the plague. But trust me, a well-organized marketing and content plan is a lifesaver when it comes to staying focused and on track. It helps you visualize your strategies, keep tabs on deadlines, and ensure you're consistently connecting with your audience.

Now, I've got a little treat for you, I've put together my very own marketing and content planner that you can download for free! It's filled with yearly planning tips to keep you on track. Sign up here to grab your copy and bring some organization and clarity into your business.

4. Let's have a heart-to-heart and debunk a common myth that can keep us trapped in the shiny object syndrome whirlwind. It's time to shift gears and focus on perfecting, selling, and marketing the treasures you already have in your arsenal.

Instead of constantly chasing the next big thing, take a step back and assess the products you've poured your heart and soul into. Are they reaching their full potential? Could they use a sprinkle of magic to captivate your audience? Often, the key to success lies in maximizing the gems you already possess. And start selling! Selling can feel weird, but really, stop chasing new products and services and start perfecting the one you got and SELL!

Now, let's talk about a powerful tool that can help you do just that: email flows. These nifty templates can put your product sales on autopilot, allowing you to connect with your audience and nurture them toward making a purchase. And guess what? My email flow templates are designed to make selling a breeze. They're clever, engaging, and crafted to effortlessly convert your subscribers into loyal customers.

Now, let's address a common misconception: you don't need to break the bank buying expensive software to make your business flourish. Success lies in the daily activities that move the sales needle. It's all about connecting with your audience, engaging potential customers, and consistently marketing your gems. So, put aside the shiny object of costly software and focus on those daily sales activities that truly make a difference.
