Now we design a product label, let’s stick to that we have a candle business like we did when we designed social media templates in one of the previous lessons. If you have made a moodboard you have probably included some photos of some of the products that others are making that you really like, but let’s just head over to Pinterest and search for some inspiration first. You can create a secret board where you save some different ideas. Try and search for the type of product you are selling + label
When you are ready to start designing open up a new Canva design, lets's make these in 3x3 inches. You can always resize them later when you know the print size.
You can create your label from scratch or you can use one of the templates there is, you can still customize it so it becomes 100% aligned with your brand.
Remember to open your brand board in another fan and have your brand kit ready in the left menu bar. Now you add your colors, fonts, text and brand elements, you can also use your own pattern as a background if you want to. See some of the examples below i have made. If you want to create the little circle you just do the same as you learned in the logo circle lesson.
To make sure your labels look good on a product it is a good idea to use mockups. To do that you just go and export the labels and upload them again:
- Go to share in the top right bar - > download and save as PNG
- Click on uploads in the left bar and upload files. Now you are ready to apply it to a mockup.
How to use mockups in Canva
- Go to the Canva home page
- Go to apps - > smart mockups -> search for the product you need a mockup for
- When you have found one you like, click on it and click select
If the image doesn't fit perfect, click on the adjust image button and drag it until it looks perfect.
Now you click on save mockup and save it on your desktop
See the examples below, this will make it much easier for you to decide what style you want your labels in before you order printed versions of them.
